    I think you are right. Give me a properly setup Fender or Gibson style bass and I will be fine. But I would never want my drummer to play on a kit that wasn’t his. It’s too customized, personal and involved.

    As a pianist, I’m much the same way. The piano bench has to be centered just right at the keys, and even the light on top of the piano has to be in just the right place. It’s all about touch and feel (kind of like typing, too). Every Sunday before AM church, I have to move the piano bench just a hair, because Mom’s bench position is just a little bit different than mine. It makes all the difference. I threw an immature fit when the piano was moved on the staged, because my line of sight was different—it messed everything up. I totally understand.
